Floors

The Microbond microcement coating is a premium material, particularly for floors, stairs and other mechanically loaded surfaces. As it is a polymer cementitious overlay, the resulting surface is very hard and, at the same time, solid when exposed to pressure. It is, therefore, possible to create a seamless surface without the need for the formation of new expansion joints.

Another advantage is that the resulting thickness is less than 3 mm. Thanks to the final unique sealers, the surfaces are resistant to chemical and mechanical damage, and their maintenance is no different from other interior floorings.

Recommended layers' composition of a floor covering.

Application procedure Product used Technological pause before applying the next layer
Step 1 Ercole – first layer (1-2 layers as needed) approx. 6-24 hours (after drying)
Step 2 Microbond – first layer approx. 6-24 hours (after drying)
Step 3 Microbond – second layer approx. 12-24 hours (after drying)
Step 4 Cerbero WP – hydrophobic impregnation 2-3 hours
Step 5 Cerbero Base – undiluted 2-3 hours
Step 6 Gi.Gi. Sealer – mixing ratio 2:1:3 (A:B:water) 16-36 hours
Step 7 Cerbero Sealer – mixture diluted with 5% water Dry to touch after 1 hour, full load after 72 hours.

Note: When applied to anhydrite, it is necessary to use the specific priming of the surface. For more information on anhydrite application, see Preparation of the anhydrite surface

Walls

The Microbond decorative coating can be applied to any wall, indoors or outdoors. Such walls can be, for example, decorative walls in the living room, bedroom, hallway, etc.

Some wall surfaces, such as walls behind the kitchen or bathroom, need an extra protection layer to be completely washable and water-tight. See Sealing of microcement surfaces for such cases.

For most of the wall's decorative overlays, a thorough impregnation is not necessary. In this chapter, we are considering this assumption.

Step 1 Microbond – first layer approx. 6-24 hours (after drying)
Step 2 Microbond – second layer approx. 12-24 hours (after drying)
Step 3 Cerbero WP – hydrophobic impregnation 2-3 hours
Step 4 Cerbero Base – single layer 1-2 hours
Step 5 Cerbero Sealer – mixture diluted with 10% water Dry to touch after 1 hour, full load after 72 hours.

Note: In case of a requirement for reinforced protection, it is possible to apply 2x Cerbero Sealer or reduce the dilution percentage, or it is possible to use a more durable system intended for kitchen backsplash (see section Recommended layers' composition of a kitchen wall overlay).

Kitchen

The Microbond microcement coating is the ideal solution for walls behind kitchen sinks (backsplash) and worktops. It forms a homogeneous, non-porous surface and is more hygienic than classic tiles with pores, where mould forms and various impurities accumulate. Microbond in the kitchen is entirely waterproof, fully washable, and resistant to multiple contaminants such as hot oil, thanks to high-quality sealers.

Another advantage is that its whole layer is not thicker than just 2-3 mm. Thanks to the final unique sealers, the surfaces are resistant to chemical and mechanical damage, and their maintenance is easy.

Bathrooms

The Microbond microcement coating is a design and functional solution for walls and floors in bathrooms. Thanks to its seamless surface, your bathroom will remain free of mould and other dirt that sticks to the joints of the tiles.

The final penetrative sealers are so durable that you can safely apply the coating directly to the showers. Thanks to its unique properties, you are not at risk of peeling the overlay due to mechanical damage, as with epoxy coatings.

Stairs

The Microbond cementitious overlay is an exceptional solution for staircase surfaces. Its monolithic coating gives the staircase a distinctive appearance and functionality. They also often solve the problem of casting a staircase from raw concrete, which will not have desired results in most cases.

Furniture

Thanks to its extraordinary adhesion, the Microbond microcement coating can be applied to various surfaces such as wood, plywood, OSB, MDF, HDF, laminate boards, etc. You can use it to create bars, counters, tables or various cabinets. Applying the final penetrative sealers will achieve the required level of protection. If you intend to obtain "concrete" furniture, Microbond is an excellent and practical solution that creates a credible effect while not significantly increasing the furniture's weight.

Fireplaces

The Microbond microcement coating is an excellent design solution for walls and floors near fireplaces. Thanks to its resistance to high temperatures and washability, you do not have to worry that the nearby areas of the fireplace will suffer damage from hot carbons or permanent soot pollution.

Step 4 Cerbero Base – undiluted 1-2 hours
Step 5 Cerbero Sealer (matt, gloss)– first layer Dry to touch after 3 hour, full load after 72 hours.

Note: In case of a requirement for reinforced impregnation, it is desirable to apply 2 layers of Cerbero Sealer.

Exterior

Thanks to its exceptional properties, you can use the Microbond microcement coating even outdoors. You can apply it to stairs, sidewalks, terraces, ramps, walls, columns, various buildings of garden architecture or even swimming pools decking. To obtain a coarser and non-slip surface, you can apply Ercole coating instead of a Microbond overlay.

Recommended layers' composition for outdoors overlays

Application procedure Product used Technological pause before applying the next layer
Step 1 Ercole – first layer approx. 6-24 hours (after drying)
Step 2 Ercole – second layer approx. 12-24 hours (after drying)
Step 3 Vetrofluid – first coat 2-3 hours
Step 4 Vetrofluid – second coat 1-3 hours
Step 5 Gi.Gi. Sealer – first layer Dry to touch after 12 hour, full load after 72 hours.

Note: the surface must be solid, flat, homogenous, and free from cracks and defects. In the case of application to concrete blocks, a layer with reinforcement fabric and flexible tile adhesive is required, the elements must be insulated against rising moisture.

Swimming pools

On pool floors and walls, you can apply Poseidone. It is a superior product designed for use in swimming pools. Poseidone does not need any sealer, and the pools are easy to maintain and harmless for their users. Surface seamlessness is a design and hygiene solution.

The light shades of the pool coating make the blue-green colour of the water stand out.

You can easily apply Poseidone even to renew old swimming pool surfaces, sauna, steam rooms, and other wet areas. You can choose Ercole, the anti-skid decorative overlay for pool decking and surrounding areas.
